Out of surgery to an All-Ladies’ Missions trip!
Despite my family’s concern and advice on my health, having just undergone a surgery to reinstate my colon, I am very thankful to God that I was able to join our Bethel Ladies Fellowship’s (BLF) mission trip to Iloilo. Their concern was valid as the food there might not be suitable for my post-surgery diet and food hygiene was also a big concern. However, I have a sense of peace and felt that the Lord had called me to go by faith. I thank God that I did not have any stomach issues and ate well there.
I have lived comfortably in Singapore and going for this mission trip moved me out of my comfort zone. One of my unforgettable experiences was staying at a local home for a night to experience what life was like. I took a bath with some murky water from the well, walked along the seashore in the dark of the night and mostly ate with my hands like they did. It was a breakthrough for me as these experiences were a first for me. Over the span of the mission trip, we hosted workshops and activities which my group mates (whom were mostly locals) and I had lots of fun. This gave me an opportunity to bond and share life with them.
During one of the Sunday services, which was held on 9 July 2023, I was assigned to testify in Bethlehem Christian Church (BCC). I was eager to share my testimony, but I often get stage fright, and would feel uncomfortable to face the audience on stage. However, there was an immense peace in me and God gave me the courage and confidence to share His marvellous work in my life with the congregation. When the congregation heard my testimony, many came forward to encourage me to be persistent in trusting God for the complete restoration of my health. Throughout my trip there, the locals showered us with so much love and concern.
Overall, it was a great experience to participate in this mission trip. It provided me with a new impetus for my direction ahead with God following my surgery. After many months of befriending the group from Iloilo through Zoom meetings, I was grateful to be able to have this opportunity to fellowship with them in person. God has been great to these sisters and myself. Through all the fears we may have and the tireless nights that we had, we all drew closer and I thank GOD for the strength, courage and opening my eyes through this mission trip. Indeed Psalm 23:3-4 speaks: “… he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me”. All glory to God’s name!
It was a time of great fellowship with our Filipino sisters!
