“I shared on Father’s Day weekend how important it is for fathers to provide leadership in the family; for dads to delight and impart life to their children. Likewise, the Pastor’s leadership in the House is important. Hence I’ll be doing a regular feature on our website and Facebook. The team wants to call it WOW aka Word of Wisdom; but as for me, it will be simple sharing on how I perceive some of life’s encounters.
What stood out for me on that Father’s Day 20 years ago was the impartation of godly values to our children over 2 days of football, especially during those half-time pep talks. Despite the competitiveness and emotions in the games, fathers and boys had great fun playing together and laughing over silly things like imitating the pros.
That’s what Deuteronomy 6:6-7 looks like when we have fun and do life with our children: “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”
For the fathers who were there 20 years ago, their “relationship tank” with their children were filled to the brim and overflowing over those 2 days of football.
To all fathers, let’s make time to play with our children and regularly top-up our relationship reserves.”
